Catholic Schools Athletics Carnival
It was wonderful to visit the Catholic Schools Athletics Carnival last Friday. Mrs Manthey and I enjoyed the opportunity to come along to the sports for part of the day and were excited to hear from the staff and parents how well behaved our Holy Name students had been. We had some fantastic sportsmanship on display throughout the day, with students trying to do their best. Thank you to Mrs Taylor, Mrs Good and Mrs Elmes for supporting our students at the carnival, and to the many parents who came along.
Camp
Our year 5 and 6 students have been on camp this week at the Gold Coast. Thanks to Miss Canning, Miss Marquart and Mr Maloney for all of their hard work. We look forward to hearing all about the camp on their return.
We have a busy term ahead and are looking forward to the many exciting events we have on.
God Bless
Lisa
Loving God,
We thank you for our Holy Name Catholic School Community.
We pray that we may walk ‘the way of the gospel’ together, as we accompany each other in our learning. May the Holy Spirit guide us and give us new eyes, new ears and open hearts, helping us to bring your love to all we encounter.
We ask this prayer through Jesus our Lord and teacher,
Amen

Welcome to Term Three.
NAIDOC Week – Keep The Fire Burning!
Held across the country from 7-14 July 2024, NAIDOC Week celebrates and recognises the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This year’s them chosen by the National NAIDOC Committee, is Keep The Fire Burning! The theme honours the enduring strength and vitality of First Nations culture – with a fire a symbol of connection to Country, to each other, and to the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week, which first began in 1975, provides an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth. The students at Holy Name participated in a variety of cultural and arts-based activities including storytelling presentations from guest presenters Dion Drummond and Tawana Carmody, and boomerang throwing with Native Oz Bush Foods.
CATHOLIC EDUCATION WEEK – Communities of Faith, Hope and Love
The tradition of Catholic education preparing students for the future is acknowledged this term in Catholic Education Week. Celebrated annually in Week Three of Term Three (21-27 July 2024) Catholic Education Week, is an opportunity for all 313 Catholic schools in Queensland to celebrate and promote their distinctive mission and ethos. Catholic education strives to make a difference in the lives of those in our schools and in the wider community by challenging young people to live out the message of Jesus and to reach their full potential as compassionate, contributing, life-giving members of society. The week begins with a Catholic Education Week Mass at Holy Name Church on Sunday 21 July, followed by school photos on Monday 22 July, and several events taking place in classrooms including activities and prayer celebrations. In addition, our Year Five and Year Six students will attend a sporting Gala Day on Thursday 25 July. Please note Friday 26 July will be a Student Free Day, as staff will be attending Bishop’s Inservice Day, a day of professional learning and spiritual renewal with Bishop Ken Howell.
TEACHING & LEARNING
This term the students will be introduced to the Learning Power of Collaboration. Using I Can Statements, students will learn to work as part of a team, developing important life skills such as problem-solving, listening, leadership and creative thinking, setting them on the future path to success.
- I am an important contributor.
- I know we can find a solution together.
- I will acknowledge and accept others.
- I can trust myself and others when sharing ideas and giving feedback.
MERCY VALUE
Our Power of the Heart focus this term is Justice. Catherine McAuley, founder of the Sisters of Mercy believed that Jesus must be recognised in our conduct. In other words, treating each person in a fair and equitable way. Students will come to understand and demonstrate justice through the use of I Can Statements.
I can:
- say sorry and make things right.
- stand up for what I know is right.
- be fair when working and playing with others.
