Newsletter Report – Term 3 Week 6
Dear Holy Name Families,
It has been a challenging couple of weeks with illness at Holy Name School, for both staff and students. Thank you to all the families for ensuring your children stay home when unwell, and for the prompt collection of students when they become unwell at school. We are looking forward to all these illnesses running their course and everyone being back on deck again soon.
Last week, I attended the Leadership Forum in Chinchilla. It was an outstanding week of professional learning with my fellow principals and leaders from the Toowoomba Catholic Schools Office. We had a great tour of St Jospeh’s School, celebrated Mass and then had a lovely meal hosted by St Joseph’s School. I am looking forward to Holy Name’s turn when we host the Term 4 Leadership Forum.
Bullying No Way Day
This coming Friday, we will be having a Bullying No Way Day here at Holy Name. Each of the classes have been doing some targeted learning in this area this week. Our goal at Holy Name is to create a space where all students are safe, welcomed and successful. Bullying is counter productive to this goal. Our free dress day this Friday (wearing ORANGE) is to highlight our commitment to creating a bully free zone at Holy Name School. I have included a link below to some resources that may assist families to have some open discussions about what bullying is (and just as importantly, what bullying isn’t).
Types of bullying (bullyingnoway.gov.au)
Definitions of bullying, harassment, discrimination and violence (bullyingnoway.gov.au)
Some facts about bullying and violence (bullyingnoway.gov.au)
Book Fair
Thank you to Mrs Tindall and Mr Schonfeld for their organisation of the Holy Name Book Fair. We will have the Book Fair open from this Thursday 15th August, until next Wednesday the 21st of August. Book Fair is held in the Holy Name Parish Hall and will be open from 8:00am to 8:30am and from 3:00pm to 3:30pm. There are some great Christmas gift ideas. If you are available to assist staff with open times, please let the office know. Mrs Manthey and I will have the Book Fair open during the Learning Meeting next Tuesday evening (until 6:00pm).
Reminders
Just a couple of reminders to parents regarding supervision and communication.
- Sentral – all documentation being sent home from the school is sent via the Sentral App. This includes information about excursions, permission slips, reporting, parent teacher interviews etc. We have posted a reminder on the school Facebook page this week on how to download the App. If you have any questions or have had difficulty accessing the App, please come and see Mary or Emma in the office, or ask a fellow parent to assist (our P&F team are always willing to help).
- Drop-off and pick-up from school.
- Students are not supervised in the morning before school before 8:10am. Any student who does arrive at school earlier than this is to sit quietly under the Keegan buildings until the staff member comes out to duty.
- At the end of the school day, students are walked to the undercover area for collection, where they are supervised until 3:10pm. Any students still at school after this time then wait outside the office. Vacancies exist in our OSHC program for families to access after school care if they are regularly unable to collect students of an afternoon. Thank you to those families who contact the school office when they are occasionally running late – this enables us to let the students know and reduces anxiety of an afternoon.
God Bless
Lisa Cavanagh
Prayer for the sick
Living God,
You created us all to enjoy fullness of life.
We place into your loving hands all those who are in need of your healing presence and comfort.
We pray through the power of the Holy Spirit and the love of Jesus.
Amen.
SCHOOL FEES
TERM 3 SCHOOL FEES ARE NOW OVERDUE - If you are experiencing any difficulties paying your fees, please do not hesitate to contact the office. Thank you very much.

Fathers’ Day Prayer Celebration – Thursday 29 August 2024, 8.45am
The first documented reference to the celebration of Fathers’ Day in Australia appeared in the Newcastle Sun newspaper on 4 September 1936; in an ecumenical spirit unusual for those times, the local Baptists held a meeting inviting “men of all denominations, and all fathers are requested to invite their sons.”
This was a fitting setting in that the likely origin of Fathers’ Day was a religious one. Stemming from Medieval times, a focus on the significance of fathers evolved from celebrations associated with St Joseph, the father-figure who cared and nurtured Jesus from birth through to maturity.
However, our ultimate example of fatherhood is our loving God, widely and traditionally addressed as Our Father. It is our God who loves us unconditionally, supporting us and being our mentor throughout life. On the first Sunday of September, let us recognize God’s continued blessing in our wonderful fathers, grandfathers, and any other men who have been as fathers to us.
We look forward to celebrating all fathers on Thursday 29 August at 8.45am with a prayer celebration led by the Year Two classes.
Prayer
God of our Ancestors,
Bless these men who, by their lives, mirror your care and protection for us.
Strengthen them and make them fearless on their path of life.
Give them hearts that are sensitive – hearts willing to break open with love.
Lift them close to your face and encircle them with your light and wisdom, with humility and truth, with patience and peace.
We ask this blessing in the name of Jesus, your Beloved Son, and in the power of the Holy Spirit, the Breath of Life itself.
Amen
Blessings

Book Week and Book Fair
Book Week and Book Fair News!
Week 7 – 19-23 August – is the Children’s Book Council of Australia’s Book Week. At Holy Name, we celebrate by having a Dress Up Parade. This will be on Tuesday August 20, at the start of the school day. Students are encouraged to dress up as their favourite character from a book (it can be a movie or TV show as well but it must appear in a book!). Students will parade around the MEAC with their class. Holy Name does not have prizes for Best Dressed – instead every student receives a sticker and a bookmark with the CBCA theme, Reading is Magic.
Book Fair is also being held in this week in the Holy Name Parish Hall. It will be open before and after school and EFTPOS is available. Cash is also accepted. Please come along and support this event, as the library benefits through retaining a percentage of sales. The Fair will be open for the duration of the parent teacher interviews, also being held that week. Please contact Mandie Tindall (mandie.tindall@twb.catholic.edu.au) in the library for further information.
