In Geography, we have been learning about different locations. We have been learning about the different states and territories that we have in Australia. Our goal is to remember the names of all of them. Konnah
In Maths we have been learning about addition and subtraction. We have been practising strategies that we already know and are trying to get quicker at using them. We have been looking at adding and subtracting two-digit numbers in different ways. We always practise our doubles, doubles plus one and friends of ten. Neo
In Science we have been learning about lifecycles. Last week, we have looked at the lifecycle of a butterfly and learnt that they aren’t born as a butterfly. They start off as an egg, turn into a caterpillar, make a cocoon and then into a butterfly. All living things have a life cycle. Stellah
In English, we have been learning about information reports. All information reports are full of facts, and they are non-fiction. An information report about an animal tells us what they are, what they look like, what they eat, where they live and their lifecycle. We have been doing some writing about frogs and butterflies. In English this fortnight, we have been learning how to write biographies and their structure. We have enjoyed interviewing a family member and then writing a biography on them. We have also read biographies on some notable people including Serena Williams and Malala Yousafzai which has been really interesting.

In HASS, we have been learning about the different systems of government around the world. We collaboratively worked on a research project where we were assigned groups to research different systems of government from around the world including, Monarchy, Dictatorship and Democracy. We are looking forward to learning more about Australia’s system of government this term.

A Message from your School Captains:
This term, our Learning Power is Communication. This learning disposition means that you share you work and communicate with your peers. Our Power of the Heart is Hospitality. This means we care for others when they need help and invite others to collaborate with you.
We look forward to hearing the different stories of students demonstrating the Learning Power and Power of the Heart.
Have a great term!

Sport
On Friday the 28th of April, our Holy Name Cross Country team competed at Kearney Springs to be included in the Central Zone Cross Country team. I want to congratulate the following children on their participation in this gruelling event – they should be so proud of themselves – they did their school proud! Well done to Jok Ayii, Jocelyn Beauchamp, Oriah Maxwell, Viola Martin, Ella Larkin, Archer Breeze, Sam Turley and Ezekiel Maxwell. It is so wonderful to see our students participate in these events and take themselves out of their comfort zones!
In PE Lessons we have been busy perfecting our technique in High Jump, Long Jump, Shot Put and Discus, with the help of our fabulous coach Renea Reich. It’s great to see the children really listening and putting into practice the tips she has been giving us to do our best at the upcoming athletics carnival. The children and I are all learning invaluable skills from Renea, who is a Level 3 High Performance Athletics Coach. This week we will be working on our sprint starts and our relay baton handover.
You will notice the oval is looking fantastic, all marked up for us to practice our athletics events on. Thank you to Corey Watts, father of Serenity, Inara and Haylee, who has spent a lot of time making our oval ready for us to use! It is so exciting to run on the track and practice our throwing events ready for the carnival!
