Term 2 Week 10 2023
From your Principal
Looking Back, Looking Forward
Another term draws to a close.
The energy of classrooms; the Prayer Celebrations – ANZAC Day, Mother’s Day, National Sorry Day; the incursions with visiting authors and sporting development officers; the excursions to Cobb & Co, Emu Gully Adventure camp and the Empire Theatre; and the talent showcased on the sporting field and in The Arts ….so much has been achieved this term.
Although the anticipation of the impending holidays is cause for great excitement at Holy Name, let us look back with gratitude on a successful term of learning at Holy Name.
Blessings

All the best to Charlie who moves schools’ next term. We all wish him well as he continues his educational journey.

Year 4 News
On Monday the whole school went to MEAC to watch Lucas Proudfoot perform for us.
Lucas told us a story about growing up and going to his nan’s house. He spoke about his Indigenous culture. Lucas also plays the Indigenous culture, guitar and the stomp box.
Everyone thought the didgeridoo and stomp box were awesome.
Lucas chose Meyka and A.J first to come up to dance ,and they both had some amazing dance moves and they had the whole school clapping to the beat.
Lucas made a lot of funny jokes and made us all laugh. He played the kids some instruments and he let some kids play some instruments too. They played the boomerang and slap stick.

Embarking on the Challenge program at Emu Gully Adventure Camp was a life-changing experience! The camp pushed us to our limits, both physically and mentally, and helped us to discover our inner strength. From conquering obstacle courses to building on our friendships, it was an unforgettable adventure that transformed us into more resilient and confident individuals.
Library News
Students are able to use Accessit at home.
This gives them access to Encyclopedia Britannica and other child safe websites such as ABC Splash. The link to our site is Holy Name Primary School (accessit.online)
Students will need to log in to the database. To log in, they use their school username and add @twb.catholic.edu.au, then use their school password. This will authenticate them with Accessit. Students in years 3 and 4 have enjoyed exploring Britannica this term. It is regularly updated and has great videos for them to watch.
Athletics Carnival
Thankyou Holy Name for a fantastic Athletics Carnival! Last week, over two days, we successfully completed our Track and Field Carnival and I am extremely grateful for the contributions many people made! I hope all the children had an enjoyable experience, from the younger children’s rotational activities to the older children’s competitive events! The children competed with the best attitudes and gave it their all, and the staff members organised the events and ran everything so smoothly. I want to make special mention to the Year 6 Leaders, including Maddy Southwell, Libby Mason-Dougall, Plamedi Kalenga, plus Ella, CC and Mikey Larkin who arrived at school early both mornings to help me set up and then also worked with the P-2 children at their activities, and helped run the ballgames and relays. I couldn’t have done it without them. Thank you also to the parents who helped out, especially Corey Watts, who was our starter for the day and tirelessly worked to get our oval looking fantastic for the carnivals. These days couldn’t run smoothly without everyone working together and I’m so grateful that we had such fantastic weather for the events. This year we awarded Age Champion and Runner-Up Age Champion for the following 9-12 year old children:
9 Years Girl Age Champion – Akiit Chol
9 Years Girl Runner Up – Madelyn Henry
9 Years Boy Age Champion – Jax Bleakely

11 Years Boy Runner Up – Archer Breeze
12 Years Girl Age Champion – Libby Mason-Dougall
12 Years Girl Runner Up – Madilyn Southwell
12 Years Boy Age Champion – Archie Adamson

We even had a couple of children who broke records for the 80m sprint – congratulations to CC Larkin and Neo Binto on these achievements!
Congratulations to the winning house Mort on 395, followed by McAuley 387 and Concannon 330.
Please keep an eye out for a letter if your child has been selected to compete at the Catholic Athletics Carnival on Friday the 14th of July. These will be sent home later this week.
Enjoy your holidays everyone! Looking forward to another great term of sport!

P&F News
Term 2 has been a busy term for our team.
It started with a back to school breakfast for families, a successful Mother’s Day stall (thankyou for all the donations). We organised a Pie Drive from O’Donnell’s, we donated a Prize box full of goodies for every class, we were successful in winning A Parent Engagement Grant from CSPQ (more details coming in Term 3). We continued to run the tuckshop and uniform shop (thankyou to our volunteers that keep these open). The tuckshop purchased new equipment and a new fridge (our fridge stopped working in February), we continued to supply Complimentary Tea and Coffee at school events, we donated Footsteps of Jesus Pins for Student awards and helped prepare the sausage sizzle for Minnie Vinnies Sleepout.
We are beyond grateful for everyone that has supported us this term. We have some exciting projects happening around the school in Term 3. Watch this space.
Our major fundraiser for the year will be our annual Art Show, to be held on 20th October.
We are currently seeking event sponsorship and raffle prizes. If you are interested please email holynamepf@twb.catholic.edu.au
Thanks
